Overview

El Zarzal Estadero, nestled on Av. Las Palmas in the scenic enclave of Las Mercedes, Envigado, offers more than just a meal — it presents an experience framed by one of Medellín’s most stunning viewpoints. This restaurant is a favored stop for visitors and locals alike who seek to enjoy authentic Colombian flavors alongside panoramic city vistas.

The menu boasts traditional delights such as the legendary Bandeja Paisa, a hearty platter that celebrates Antioquia’s rich culinary heritage. Equally inviting are the Patacones con Hogao and the beloved Empanadas Crocantes, items that capture the essence of local street food elevated with care. For beverage enthusiasts, options like the Vino Caliente and Limonada de Vino Tinto introduce warming, comforting nuances, perfect for the cooler hillside climate. Notably, the Chocolate con Queso stands out—its blend of rich hot chocolate and melted cheese creates a unique balance of sweet and savory that visitors frequently praise.

The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with a layout designed to maximize the spectacular views. Daytime visitors often remark on how the natural light enhances the entire experience, while evenings draw a livelier crowd eager to watch the city lights twinkle below. The setting caters well to a diverse clientele—from tourists on guided tours appreciating the local charm to couples and families wanting to unwind in an inviting space.

While some guests have noted occasional slower service and parking challenges due to the location’s proximity to a busy avenue, these minor inconveniences pale compared to the breathtaking environment and satisfying food. The ambiance strikes a balance between rustic and comfortable, inviting diners to linger, savor, and soak in the moment.

In conclusion, El Zarzal Estadero is a destination that combines traditional Colombian cuisine with a stunning mirador experience. It’s well suited for those who appreciate cultural authenticity paired with a memorable landscape—ideal for travelers looking to immerse themselves in Antioquia’s flavors and vistas in a relaxed yet vibrant setting.

Just the views alone from this mirador restaurant are worth coming here. We tried the hot chocolate with cheese (chocolate con queso) and platano with beef in BBQ sauce as part of our tour. I know people usually like to have a nice sunny day for such a place, but I'm from Las Vegas where we don't get to see clouds and rain much. So this is a nice change of pace. Our guide did say this place gets crowded at nights, and I can see why. Definitely a place we'll be returning to in a future visit!

Beautiful view, good traditional Colombian food, the service was a bit slow, and the people weren't too friendly. A bit difficult to park and leave, as it is right up against a main road. Would recommend.
